101: Introduction to 3D Printing & Design: EXAMPLES
In this workshop, students learn the basics of TinkerCAD, a free, easy-to-use, browser-based introductory CAD program. As a project they design a "thing" with their name on it. They design the base shape, add their name or cut it out, and lastly add holes for whatever they would like.
Click on any of the links below. You will be taken to an interactive 3D viewer. To start, use your left mouse to rotate the model. The try rotating the box in the upper right with your left mouse button. Then try the viewer tool bar under the model for more exploration.
In this workshop, the focus is on TinkerCAD. The project is for students to design their own house...without a roof, so you can see into it. The house project gives them a chance to learn scale, how to combine multiple objects (adding and subtracting), and to explore their creativity.
These designs are also posted to www.thingiverse.com. Enter "C3D-" into the search bar or the name and you will be able to find it. This site is for 3D enthusiasts worldwide to share designs. Have some fun and explore. If you have a 3D printer, any of these designs can be downloaded and printed...and even modified.
